UNDERSTANDING ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture, a cornerstone of TCM, involves the strategic insertion of fine needles into specific points along the body's energy pathways to restore balance and vitality to Qi. Renowned globally, acupuncture stands as a powerful therapeutic tool, fostering wellness and self-awareness while addressing a myriad of health conditions effectively and safely.
Applications of Acupuncture
The versatility of acupuncture renders it suitable for a wide array of ailments, including:
Does Acupuncture Cause Discomfort?
Sensations during acupuncture treatments vary among individuals. While discomfort is minimal for most, sensations like tingling or warmth may arise. However, discomfort should never exceed your tolerance level. Most clients report feelings of well-being and relaxation during and after treatments.
Exploring TCM Treatment Options
Beyond acupuncture, TCM offers a spectrum of therapeutic modalities, including acupressure, moxibustion, and cupping. Each method serves to enhance the body's innate healing capacities, promoting balance and vitality.
Safety and Administration
Acupuncture is recognized for its safety and minimal side effects. At Hillcrest, certified Naturopathic Doctors and acupuncturists administer treatments with meticulous attention to cleanliness and patient comfort.
Your First Visit and Subsequent Treatments
During your initial visit, we conduct a thorough assessment of your health and lifestyle to tailor treatments to your unique needs. Subsequent sessions are designed to optimize your well-being efficiently, often incorporating adjunct therapies like moxibustion and acupressure.
Treatment Frequency and Aftercare
The frequency and duration of treatments vary depending on your condition and response to acupuncture. Regular sessions are vital to sustaining progress and achieving long-term balance. After treatments, you may experience a range of responses, from pain relief to increased energy or relaxation.

Facial Acupuncture
Aesthetic Acupuncture
Also known as "facial rejuvenation acupuncture” or cosmetic acupuncture is a non-invasive procedure designed to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, as well as improve the overall appearance and complexion of the skin
It is a natural, safe and effective technique to improve skin health, reduce the appearance of wrinkles and improve muscle tone.
How does it work?
Aesthetic acupuncture works by creating micro-traumas where the needles are inserted into the skin. The skin then stimulates the production of collagen as well as encourages blood and lymph flow to repair the 'trauma'. From a traditional Chinese medicine perspective, this procedure tonifies and lifts qi and nourishes yin, essence, and blood. The overall effect after a series of treatments is that the skin appears brighter and healthier.
How many sessions are needed?
12 sessions, twice a week for 6 weeks, are recommended to see optimal results.
Maintenance treatments can be given once per month, or once every other month.
